Viking's LoEx Foam Estimator is here to help customers with all synthetic fluorine free foam protection needs. With this digital tool, users can estimate new systems or transition an existing low expansion system to synthetic fluorine free foam. Get started below.

2. Foam Concentrate What's this?

Viking USP - This foam concentrate is specifically used for hydrocarbon fuels with a Flashpoint of 25°F or greater, a Vapor Pressure of 40mmHg or less, and nonblended fuels.

Viking ARK - This foam concentrate is specifically designed to be used on miscible (polar solvents) and non-miscible (hydrocarbon) fuels. This concentrate should be used anytime an alcohol, ethanol, acetone/ketone fuels are present. Should hydrocarbon fuels also be present (mixed fuels scenario) this concentrate should be chosen. In a mixed fuel scenario with hydrocarbons present, after selecting the ARK concentrate use hydrocarbon (most challenging fuel type for the ARK) as the fuel during your selections.

3. Design Standard What's this?

Standard chosen determines the duration of the foam concentrate. While the duration can be adjusted, it will not adjust below the applicable value as determined by the standard.

The chosen fuel specifically identifies sprinklers that are available for that hazard. You’ll be given the ability to see availability as you proceed.

If selecting hydrocarbon the fuel must have a Flashpoint of 25°F or greater, a Vapor Pressure of 40mmHg or less, and be a nonblended fuel.

7. Helideck Configuration What's this?

NFPA 418 requires the foam concentrate used in this application to be UL listed or FM approved, and on the qualified products list (QPL) as a milspec foam. Currently, no such fluorine free foam concentrate exists for heliports using fixed fire protection systems. The Viking USP foam concentrate is PFAS free, UL listed, and FM approved.

50' Square - Typical helipad BOM. This may be a good fit for SQUARE helipads up to 50'. At 2,500 Sq. ft. the minimum system demand is 250 GPM. 4 Nozzles (2- topside, 1 on each side) is a demand of 316 GPM.

65' Square A - Typical helipad BOM. This may be a good fit for SQUARE helipads upto 65'. At 4,225 Sq. ft. the minimum system demand is 423 GPM. 7 Nozzles (2- topside, 2 on each side, and a 360 of centered towards topside) is a demand of 621 GPM.

65' Square B - Typical helipad BOM. This may be a good fit for SQUARE helipads upto 65'. At 4,225 Sq. ft. the minimum system demand is 423 GPM. 7 Nozzles (3- topside, 2 on each side) is a demand of 517 GPM.

50' Round - Typical helipad BOM. This may be a good fit for ROUND helipads upto 50'. At 1,962 Sq. ft. the minimum system demand is 196 GPM. 4 Nozzles (GN202 180°) is a demand of 316 GPM @ 40 PSI.

65' Round - Typical helipad BOM. This may be a good fit for ROUND helipads upto 65'. At 3,316 Sq. ft. the minimum system demand is 332 GPM. 5 Nozzles (GN202 4-180° & 1-90°) is a demand of 359 GPM @ 40 PSI.

9. Choose Overhead Sprinkler What's this?

Sprinkler availability is based upon the selections made previously. By selecting a sprinkler in this selection a density will be assigned based upon the approved fire sprinklers listed on the FM Approval certificate. Be sure to consider installation height of the sprinkler as a part of your selection.

Please complete the area section of the equation below. While the duration and the safety values have been predetermined, you may have the ability to increase -or- decrease based on the selections made.

An additional 1 minute of test concentrate is included in the concentrate calculation. This does not need to be manually added to the duration.

12. Domestic Trim

Standard configuration includes non-domestic loose trim. Domestic trim is available upon special order. Select Yes ONLY if you would like to special order domestic trim.

13. Hose Connections

Hose connections for the foam solution test header are not quoted unless selected. One connection per 250 GPM of system design is recommended.

14. Fire Department Connection Components (FDC)

FDC connection equipment is not quoted unless YES is selected. The FDC equipment includes a 4” NPT Siamese x 2-1/2” NST, 4”check valve, automatic drain valve, FDC identification ring, and breakaway caps.

15. Drums or Totes

Foam can be provided in either 55 gallon drums or 265 gallon totes.

16. Release Control Panel

The Viking VFR500 Release Control Panel is not included but recommended with the electric release deluge and SI preaction systems. Check the box below ONLY if you would like to add the VFR500 Release Control Panel to the material list.

Notes

  • Order does not come with concentrate supply piping (Bladder tank to proportioner). This piping should be corrosion resistant such as brass or stainless steel. All components for the concentrate supply line are 2-1/2” in diameter.
  • System components are configured with Groove x Groove connections with the valve in the vertical orientation . Other connections and horizontal orientation can be specially requested.
